For third offense DUIs and any subsequent DUI arrest in Danbury, the penalties become especially harsh. This is because the state views these people as engaging in patterns of reckless behavior without concerning oneself with the prior experiences related to the earlier DUIs. Third Offense DUI Penalties in Connecticut

Punishments include; (1) Three years of incarceration, with a mandatory minimum of one year and probation; (2) 100 hours of community service; (3) $2,000-$8,000 fine; and (4) License revocation for two years. If the driver’s license is reinstated, they are required to use a vehicle equipped with an ignition interlock device until this requirement is lifted by the commissioner after at least 15 years. It is important to also note that use of the interlock system and calibration of it costs money, which you will have to pay for yourself.

In Connecticut, people with three or more DUIs are oftentimes required to take part in a treatment program for their addiction and submit to a drug or alcohol assessment by the court’s support services division. Persistent offenders typically see higher fines and jail sentences for each subsequent arrest.

Further, out-of-state DUIs count in Connecticut as far as determining the number of DUIs the person has received. Also, DUIs are punished more severely when there is an aggravating circumstance, such as serious bodily injury, risk to a minor, fleeing the scene, resisting arrest, refusing to comply with a BAC request, or driving with a suspended license. It is vitally important that a person who is arrested for DUI and has prior Danbury DUI arrests consult with a DUI defense attorney. Call Lady DUI if you have found yourself in this position.
