Every courthouse moves at its own pace, and they don’t necessarily move quickly! The time it takes to reach the end of a Bridgeport DUI case typically depends on the caseload in that courthouse at the time. Generally, cases are delayed either by the court or by the defense attorney. While this might be aggravating for you because you want this process over with, if your attorney requests a continuance, they have a good reason to do so. Trust them and try to be patient.

Attending the Bridgeport Superior Court

When you arrive at the Bridgeport Superior Court, also known as Geographical Area 2, you can park in a garage at the corner of Lafayette Square and Fairfield Avenue. There is also a parking garage behind the Holiday Inn on Main Street. There are also many open air parking lots that you can park in. The closest parking lot to the courthouse is at the corner of Lyon Terrace and Golden Hill Street. There is also a lot between Elm Street and Golden Hill Street. Finally, there is street parking available near the courthouse if you can manage to find a spot nearby.

Enter the building through the main front doors and then pass through the Courthouse Security Checkpoint. Once you do this, you have to find the courtroom that your case has been assigned to. In the Bridgeport Courthouse, cases are assigned by type. Courtroom A sees criminal cases, Courtroom B sees motor vehicle cases, and Courtroom C sees domestic violence cases. If you have additional questions, you can ask the court clerks who have a desk in the lobby.

Just having this basic information can make going to court a lot less scary. Make sure to leave yourself ample time to arrive early to the courthouse and find the correct courtroom. You should also dress formally and act politely when dealing with anyone in the building. Your Bridgeport DUI defense lawyer can advise you further on how to act, how to dress, and what to do if you need to appear in court.
